Is Gas Normal?
Toot, fart, break wind, flatulence, hot air, cut the cheese, wind or gas... fart humour is alive and well today. Whether you see it as juvenile, rude or straight up funny, this is a bodily function and there ain't no shame in that!
I mean, it happens to the best of us. You know, sitting with some friends, butt cheeks clenched as you so desperately try to either hold it in or make it a silent (and hopefully stinkless) toot. Of course, there is always one in a room that will just let 'er RIP and take pride in what their butt has just accomplished.
I think it's time we shed some light on the fact that there is nothing to be ashamed of! With that, there is one thing I'd like to run home today. There is a big difference between the words "normal" and "common" and often they are misused.
Is gas normal?
Welp! Here is the thing. Gas is absolutely COMMON, meaning it can happen frequently and it's often that many people experience gas, but that doesn't mean it is NORMAL.
You get what I'm saying?
Let's understand what's going on...
With daily stressors such as stress, dehydraton, antibiotics, environmental toxins and even overeating your stomach can become underactive. In others words these stressors deplete your digestive enzymes which are responsible for breaking down your foods (think of a pac-man). When foods are left undigested in the gut, they begin to ferment and not the good kinda of fermentation. This creates a gas build up and pressure that eventually has got to go somewhere, so you guessed it... *toot toot*.
While this again is common, this is not normal. This is a state of dysbiosis or imbalance happening in the body.
So, let's support those digestive enzymes, shall we?
One of my favourite ways to do this is with apple cider vinegar.
Apple Cider Vinegar Shots
1-2 tbsp apple cider vinegar (preferably unpasturized, organic)
1/4 cup water
1/2 tsp honey (optional)
1/2 lemon squeezed (optional)
Down the hatch before breakfast or for optimal support take 1 shot before breakfast, lunch and dinner.
ps. I know you are strong, but please don't take the apple cider vinegar straight, it's tough on your esophagus, water it down.
pps. Add the optional ingredients if you just can't handle the taste of ACV.
